Mystery surrounds the sudden departure of BBC Radio Suffolk presenter Rob Dunger who has left the station.

Mr Dunger, who presented the weekend breakfast shows on Saturdays and Sundays, had been off the for a few weeks and listeners understood he was under the weather.

However a statement from the BBC confirmed that he will not be returning to the show which includes gardening features on a Saturday and a religious element on a Sunday morning.

A spokeswoman for the BBC said: “We can confirm that Rob Dunger won’t be returning to his weekend breakfast show on BBC Radio Suffolk.

“Rachel Sloane will present the weekend breakfast show for the immediate future bringing the usual mix of news and the gardening phone-in on Saturday and faith on a Sunday.”

She could not give any further information about Mr Dunger’s departure – saying it was a confidential matter and the BBC did not comment on individual staffing issues.

Mr Dunger has been a familiar voice on the station over recent years. As well as hosting the weekend breakfast show he has also regularly stood in for other presenters when they have been away on holiday.
