Flood warnings have been issued after heavy rainfall

HEAVY rainfall across the region has forced officials to issue a series of flood warnings.

Suffolk Constabulary is advising motorists to take extra care on the county’s roads as rain continues to fall and water levels rise.

The Environment Agency has also issued a series of warnings.

Officials are expecting flooding in the north east of the county for the Wrentham and Chediston Water Courses and the River Waveney in the Bungay area, as well as Thorpeness Hundred River from Knodishall to Aldringham,

They are also warning people to be prepared for floods in the River Waveney area from Diss to Ellingham, the River Deben from and including Debenham to Bromeswell, the River Lark from Clopton to Martlesham and the River Ore from Framlingham to Blaxhall.

Areas of Newmarket are also at risk of groundwater flooding, including High Street, while the River Bure and Spixworth Beck could also be affected.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time for their journey, slow down and not to attempt to drive through flooded roads.

Rain is expected to fall throughout Saturday evening through to Sunday and police are warning that the whole county could be affected by standing water, which can be difficult to see in the dark.
