The Big Fun Run in Christchurch Park, Ipswich, went ahead despite the downpour

ANY optimistic hopes of an Indian summer in Suffolk were today dashed by forecasters.

The county was treated to an autumnal drenching yesterday as the heavens opened – although the dreary weather wasn’t enough to dampen the spirits of those enjoying events, including the annual Holywells Park Apple Festival.

And WeatherQuest forecaster Jim Bacon poured cold water on the notion the end of October and November will bring unseasonable warmth.

Temperatures for this time of year normally reach 12 or 13C.

“I don’t think there will be any dramatically warmer weather or anything like that, “ he said.

“At the start of the week it will be cloudy with a spot of rain and the temperatures will be about average for this time of year.

“Come midweek it will be milder with a little rain.

“There will be a lot of cloud and the temperatures might reach about 14 or 15C and in west of the county – it could get up to 16C.”

But the mild conditions aren’t here to stay with the colder climate expected to return by the weekend.

Mr Bacon added: “We aren’t seeing dramatic changed in the week, but come the end of things will be colder.
