Thames Coastguard was informed of the incident at 12.51am on Monday that the man was stranded in a dinghy in the river, opposite Pin Mill.

The outboard engine failed on the dinghy as he was attempting to come ashore from his moored yacht.

He managed to grab hold of another vessel, which was also mooring, in order to stop the dinghy drifting.

Harwich RNLI Inshore Lifeboat was called to the scene and the crew were able to tow the dinghy to shore.
