Suffolk: Time for people to make nominations in 2014 Stars of Suffolk awards
15:31 01 July 2014
A fundraiser fighting to make a difference, a dedicated volunteer or an emergency service worker going above and beyond the call of duty.
People are today being given the opportunity to have their community heroes recognised as nominations continue to be taken for this year’s Stars of Suffolk Awards.
There are 14 categories people are able to vote in for the awards, backed by the Ipswich Star and East Anglian Daily Times, including unsung hero of the year, police person of the year and community team or champion.
Archant Suffolk editor-in-chief Terry Hunt said: “We are delighted to be closely associated with Stars of Suffolk once again this year.
“It is a brilliant event which recognises and celebrates the true heroes of our county.
“If you know someone, or an organisation, which really does go the extra mile to make a difference, then please nominate them.”
Last year’s glittering final, held at Suffolk New College in Ipswich, heard tales of courage, determination and community spirit.
Last year’s overall award winner was 49-year-old firefighter Jim Golder, who risked it all to rescue two children from drowning at sea.
Mick Parker, managing director of Parker Communications, which organises the event, said: “The best thing of all about Stars of Suffolk is that it recognises and celebrates the brilliant work done by people who simply don’t realise what extraordinary things they’re doing.
Following the launch of the awards last month, Rob Legge, chief executive of Servest, lead sponsor for Stars of Suffolk, added: “I have always found it to be one of the most uplifting and inspirational things I’ve been associated with.”
The category sponsors this year are: Hintlesham Hall, Suffolk County Council, BBC Radio Suffolk, Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Trust, Ramada Encore, Cipher Crystal, Ipswich Hospital, Hudson Signs, Costa Coffee, Fred Olsen and Elmy Cycles.
