STAFF and students from University Campus Suffolk have been given the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to ride out with Olympic cycling heroes Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish when the Tour of Britain starts on Sunday.
The first leg of the race will start along Ipswich’s Waterfront and the lucky group from UCS will lead out the peloton full of the world’s leading cyclists.
Starting outside the UCS Waterfront Building and moving on through Neptune Quay, the race then heads off towards Kesgrave, before heading up the coast.
One student selected for the lead out team is Rebecca Faulkner, a BSc (Hons) sport and exercise science student at UCS.
She said: “It’s an exciting opportunity to be involved with a high profile event and as a keen cyclist and sport science student, something I couldn’t miss out on.”
Course leader Dr Gavin Devereux will be demonstrating many examples of scientific analysis at work in cycling during a public lecture to be held during the Tour of Britain start on Sunday at 10.20am and a second session at 12.20pm, both in Lecture Theatre 1 at the UCS Waterfront Building.
