UKIP county councillor Bill Mountford is to stand for the party in next month’s first elections for a Police and Crime Commissioner in Suffolk.
Mr Mountford has been county councillor for the Lowestoft South division since 2009 – winning the seat in a surprise result in the election which took place on the same day as the last Euro-elections.
His entry into the race means there are now four candidates standing for the position of PCC on November 15.
Tim Passmore is standing for the Conservatives, Jane Basham is the Labour candidate, and former Radio Orwell boss David Cocks is standing as an independent.
The £70,000 a year post will replace the police authority and will have wide ranging powers to set policing policy in the county – although not interfere with day to day police work.

£70,000 a year to do what? Be told (politely of course) by the police to mind his own business? No doubt all the candidates have considerable experience of policing? Would have thought the Chief Constable would have a better idea on policies. And why should candidates be associated or otherwise with political parties? It's all nonsense.
