A road in Tattingstone has reopened after a collision this morning which left a 50-year-old woman with serious injuries.

Emergency services were called to the collision at approximately 8am this morning and they are at the scene on the A137 between Tattingstone and Wherstead.

A red Citroen C2 and a red Hyundai i20 cars collided, and the drivers of both cars were injured in the crash.

A 25-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman, who was seriously injured, had to be freed from their cars by emergency services in Wherstead.

Ambulance crews were called just before 8am as a rapid response car, paramedic officer, two ambulances and the Essex Air Ambulance Service attended the scene.

Paramedic Officer David Sexby said: “Both casualties suffered serious pelvic injuries and the female casualty also sustained leg injuries.

“Our crews worked hard alongside the fire service to free the patients so they could be stabilised and taken to hospital.”

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service were notified of the incident at 8.02am, with crews from Princes Street and Ipswich East attending.

The first crews were in attendance eight minutes later.

Mr Sexby said: “Both have been taken to specialist trauma units, the woman has been taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital by land and the man via road to Ipswich Hospital.”

Motorists are being warned to avoid the area while the incident is dealt with and diversions have been put in place, and police are appealing for witnesses.

The road remained closed 2.07pm while recovery of the vehicles and clearing of the road takes place.

Any witnesses should contact Pc John Clarke at Suffolk Police Headquarters Roads Policing and Firearms Operations Unit on 101 quoting CAD 71 of 11/7/14.
