A father and daughter led musical group from Suffolk has hung up its pearly costumes for the final time – with one member now nearing 90.
The Pearlies Variety Show had been entertaining care home residents around the county for the past seven years but, recently gave its last performance at Broad Acres in Knodishall near Saxmundham.
Founded by 89-year-old Brian “Pixie” Ward and his daughter Pat Ward, from Aldeburgh, the Pearlies’ show features singing, dancing and costumes – as well as occasional belly-dancing.
Ms Ward, who was also celebrating her 68th birthday at the final show, said her father was a performer who belied his age.
“As soon as he puts his outfit on and hears the music, something clicks and he is like a puppy dog ready to have fun at any minute,” she added.
The Pearlies, which also featured singer Brian Cohen, performed for free or in return for donations to cover travel expenses.
