Sound equipment, a sound rig and generator have been seized by police following an unlicensed music event attended by around 450 people in Thetford Forest.

Officers were first made aware of the incident near Croxton at around 12.30am.

They immediately tried to discover the organisers as well as monitoring the event for safety as it was a rural location during the hours of darkness.

As dawn broke, officers were able enter the site to conduct a full assessment of the area and seize sound equipment and speakers. Two vehicles were also seized.

Officers remained on the scene and the area began to clear at 11.30am. This was completed by about 2pm.

Inquiries are continuing into the circumstances around the event.

Superintendent Stuart Gunn, who led the police response, said: “Unlicensed music events like this one are not only a disturbance to local people, but can also result in damage and financial penalties to landowners at the location where they are held.

“They are also very unsafe due to the remote location and closeness to rural roads.

“This action reinforces the message that Norfolk police take a zero tolerance attitude to this type of activity.”

Forecasters have warned of strong winds of around 65mph that are expected to sweep into the county this evening, as a wet and windy night is expected to continue into the morning.
