Rail services travelling through Mistley are subject to delays and alterations due to the attempted theft of signalling cables at the station yesterday.

Abellio Greater Anglia said that services may be delayed by up to 10 minutes or terminated at Harwich International at short notice.

“An estimate for the resumption of normal services will be provided as soon as the problem has been fully assessed,” a spokesman for the company said.

Network Rail was reported to be on site this morning and is hoped to have the problem fixed “as soon as possible”.

Affected stations include: Manningtree; Mistley; Wrabness; Harwich International; Dovercourt and Harwich Town.

“Abellio Greater Anglia thank you for your patience and understanding,” the spokesman added.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: “BTP officers were called to the rail line close to Station Road, Bradfield, Essex, on Tuesday, 3 June, after reports that cabling had been damaged.

“BTP officers attended, alongside colleagues from Network Rail, and found that signal cabling had been moved and damaged.

“Enquiries are ongoing and engineers have replaced the affected cable.”
