The trial of a Felixstowe man accused of killing his wife which was due to take place in January has been delayed until June.

In June a jury in the trial of 61-year-old Shaun Ryan at Ipswich Crown Court was discharged because of concerns about his health and a new trial was expected to take place next month.

However, on Thursday, Steven Dyble for Ryan told the court a psychiatrist in the case was unlikely to be available in January and asked for the trial to be rescheduled.

Ryan has pleaded not guilty to murdering his 67-year-old wife Jean Ryan in April last year. The issue in the case is his mental state at the time.

The court heard that police officers who went to the couple’s home in Gosford Way, Felixstowe found Mrs Ryan’s lifeless body in the bedroom of the bungalow with a knife sticking out of her back.

She had been stabbed 14 times.
