The country’s first female firefighter will be at Ipswich County Library next week for a special talk on her experiences.

Norfolk-based Josephine Reynolds began training in 1982 and after 15 months of learning the ropes became the county’s first full-time female firefighter.

Having penned her first book – Fire Woman – the 52-year-old will be at Ipswich County Library on Wednesday, August 30, where she will give a talk about her experience in the then-male dominated industry and her life at the front line of the emergency services.

The book also details difficulties in having to train in men’s clothes and having to wait for a ladies toilet to be installed at Thetford fire station.

She will also be on hand to sign copies of her book, which will be available to buy on the day, as well as speak to readers. The event will run from 2.30-3.30pm.
