People living on an Ipswich street are still none-the-wiser why specialist police officers raided a nearby property on Sunday evening.
The covert operation by members of the Metropolitan Police’s Kidnap Unit descended on St George’s Street at around 7pm.
For more than an hour armed officers wearing balaclavas and protective vests closed off the road near Dykes Street.
According to an eyewitness who did not want to be named they entered at least one property during the incident.
He added one person was brought out and taken to a waiting ambulance.
On Sunday Met Police spokesman Simon Fisher said: “Kidnap units have carried out an operation at St George’s Street.
“The investigation around this remains ongoing – as such we are not prepared to discuss for operational reasons.”
Today Mr Fisher would only add that investigations were ongoing and further details would not be available until tomorrow at the earliest.
The Kidnap Unit provides fast-time responses to life threatening crime including hostage situations, extortion, blackmail and any other serious crime.
