AN inquest is due to be opened today into the death of a man in his 20s, who collapsed at a block of flats in Fore Street.

Paramedics were alerted to the address, next to The Salvation Army’s Lyndon House Lifehouse centre on the one-way system yesterday afternoon.

A 999 call was made at 3.20pm reporting a man had suffered a heart attack.

The East of England Ambulance Service (EEAST) called the air ambulance for support.

A crew from the Essex Air Ambulance landed at a car park in Star Lane, opposite the Post Office in Fore Street shortly before 3.50pm.

The East Anglian Air Ambulance which serves Suffolk was unable to attend, due to their two helicopters being involved in other missions.

Two medics on board the aircraft were met by two rapid response vehicles and a double-manned ambulance from EEAST.

A spokeswoman for EEAST told The Star the man had been pronounced dead at the scene.

She said: “We were called to an address in Fore Street to reports a man had suddenly been taken ill.

“He was reported to have suffered a cardiac arrest.”

A spokeswoman for Suffolk police said officers were alerted by ambulance crews shortly before 4.40pm.

She confirmed the force were called to reports a man had died at the address.

It is understood the man was 28 and may have suffered a fit.

The death has been referred to the Coroner’s Office and an inquest is expected to be opened and adjourned today.
