Three people were taken to hospital after they become trapped in vehicles on a busy road following a crash.

The A1071 between Hintlesham and Ipswich was closed after a head-on collision between two vehicles.

A grey Fiat and a silver Citroen were involved in the incident, which happened shortly after 5pm.

There were concerns two of the vehicles’ occupants had suffered spinal injuries.

Fire crews arrived and had removed the whole roof from one of the vehicles by around 5.25pm. A third casualty, in the other vehicle, was rescued by just before 5.40pm.

Altogether five people were in the cars involved.

A police spokesman said three people were injured but no-one had believed to have suffered life-threatening or serious injuries.

All three were taken to hospital with the road being shut in both directions for around two-and-a-half hours.
