Accident on the A140 at Coddenham turning

EMERGENCY services freed a man trapped in his vehicle following a crash between a lorry and a van in Suffolk.

The accident, involving a blue Mann truck and a Ford Transit van, happened on the southbound carriageway of the A140 at Coddenham at 1.45pm.

Police officers and firefighters attended the scene along with a rapid response vehicle, ambulance and air ambulance from East of England Ambulance Service (EEAST).

The van driver, aged in his 20s, was trapped by his leg but was freed by firefighters.

He was treated at the scene by the air ambulance crew before being taken by land ambulance to Ipswich Hospital.

EEAST spokesman Richard Dunne said: “The van driver who was trapped has miraculously only sustained minor injuries while the lorry driver was checked at the scene and found to be unhurt.”

The road was closed in both directions to allow the helicopter to land but has reopened following vehicle recovery.
