Update: Appeal for witnesses to fatal crash on A12 at Kelvedon

12:13 23 June 2014

Police are today appealing for witnesses to a crash in which a young woman died after her car hit a bridge support.

The incident happened at 6.35pm on Saturday at the London Road underpass leading to the southbound carriageway of the A12 at Kelvedon.

A police spokeswoman said: “A woman in her 20s died when the grey Mercedes convertible she was driving went out of control and collided with a bridge support under the A12.

“The woman, who is from the Tiptree area, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her family have been informed.

“She was the only occupant of the car and no other vehicles were believed to have been involved.”

The road was closed for five hours while police carried out initial inquiries into the cause of the crash.

Three fire crews from Witham and Tiptree attended the incident, along with an ambulance crew.

Any witnesses who have not yet contacted police, or anyone with information about events leading to the crash, should contact the Essex Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 101 or email collisionappeal@essex.pnn.police.uk
