Police have found a cannabis factory following a fire at a property near Ipswich.

Officers are investigating after the cannabis factory was found at a home at Penny Lane, Purdis Farm, Ipswich, in the early hours of this morning.

Police were called just before 2.45am to initial reports of suspicious activity in the area.

Upon arrival officers spotted a fire inside the property. Officers gained entry to the unoccupied house and found a pan that had been left on the cooker was alight.

The officers then stumbled upon the cannabis plants - which were found in four bedrooms.

The fire service attended to extinguish the blaze and an investigation is underway.
