The seven-and-half-foot long female snake, last fed three weeks ago, was thought to have escaped from an address in Broom Crescent, which is off Sandy Hill Lane, yesterday.

It was last seen in its cage at about 6am and was reported missing just before 7pm.

Police warned neighbours to be on their guard because the snake was likely to be in an “unfriendly” mood. They recommended keeping pets and small children indoors.

However, Diva, as she is known, was found this afternoon safe and well at its owner’s address.

Suffolk police and Diva’s owner have thanked everyone for their assistance.

  • At least no one was harmed. A map would of accompanied this story very well, I am not sure where Broom Crescent is, a map would of saved me the time it takes to me to google!

  • Why do people keep these creatures as pets when they clearly pose a danger

  • "I hope the person who has lost this, pays for the "Police Time" they are incurring." Well said, totally agree, you'd expect people who decide to take into their homes wild creatures like an exotic snake to be more than socially aware and very responsible. I suggest that "irresponsible" is more appropriate. That man in Nottingham who thought he could "befriend" a venomous cobra and ended up tragically dead from being bitten sums it up for me, snakes aren't like cats and dogs, they are graceful and wonderful creatures who deserve to be left alone in the wild, they arent meant to be kept as "pets" or playthings. I'd recommend banning the import of creatures unless it is for genuine and unique scientific research by an accredited institution. Has the owner any visible tattoos by chance? The two seem to go together!

  • I find it sickening that these creatures are even considered suitable pets. They belong in their native wild habitats not confined to tanks in houses in Ipswich or elsewhere They are dangerous animals and should be governed by the same rules that apply to certain breeds of dogs, so should the owners.

  • @Al K Hall....exactly what I was thinking, is it really going to help us knowing its name? Its not exactly going to slither over and calmly get in a bag for you to take it home is it.......after all, we've been told its "unfriendly"......
