MORE than 30 homes are without power following reports of an explosion and fire in Orford this morning.
Firefighters were scrambled to Ipswich Road, Orford, following reports of smoke and flames coming up from under the pavement near the fire station at 9.21am.
Suffolk police said an electrical fault underneath the pavement caused the blaze, with the area now being made safe.
UK Power Networks engineers are currently working on the site to restore power to 31 customers in the Ipswich Road and Mill Close areas of Orford.
An UK Power Networks spokesperson said: “The cause is believed to be an underground cable fault which was reported to us at 9.46am.
“One customer was without power from that time and we isolated supplies to 30 further customers at 11am in order to safely investigate.
“We would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused particularly during such cold weather.
“We will restore power as quickly as possible.”
