Update: Reports of queues on A14 following multi-vehicle collision

08:44 29 January 2014

Archant

A multi-vehicle collision on the A14 near the Orwell Bridge has caused major tailbacks on the road, according to Suffolk police.

The incident happened on the Bury St Edmunds-bound carriageway of the road at about 8.20am.

Police say it appears there were between three or five cars involved in the collision, however it is not thought that anyone has suffered any serious injuries.

It is understood that traffic is queuing up to Seven Hills.

  • There should be average speed cameras along there, there's a crash just about every day.

  • This is two days in a row multiple vehicle collisions on the A14 causing major traffic disruption. A roads are supposed to be the safest roads but people are driving inappropriately on this road i see it every day. An example this morning in driving rain people in the overtaking lane tailgating at 70 or 80 mph. Listen people you have no time to react at that distance and speed maybe one second or two maximum. We need to educate people again about stopping distances, remember the old highway code adverts everyone knew and had to learn these i remember being shocked the distance you actually travel with reaction time and braking. Where has all this safety information for road users gone you never see it anymore.

  • Isn't it about time that IBC started an emergency response towing unit for the Orwell bridge? Anyone breaking down in the bridge pays £100 for cars, £250 for lorries (compulsory) to be towed off at the next junction.
