TRAFFIC on the A14 near Claydon was brought to a standstill today – by a runaway dog.
The alsatian was first spotted on the eastbound carriageway of the A14 near J52 at Claydon at 12.12pm.
The dog was running around in the road and running westbound along the eastbound carriageway.
Police put a rolling road block in place as they tried to slow the dog down and catch it.
The dog eventually ran under a bush, where police struggled to approach it.
One motorist said: “It was absolute chaos and amazing that this loose dog caused so many people to be delayed by up to 20 minutes.
“Apparently it was running around and proved difficult to catch.”
The dog was eventually caught and is being looked after by police as officers attempt to find the owner.
The road block has been removed and traffic is clearing.

Can I use your column to ask the driver of the green car who collided with my vw Touran on the A14 today and who failed to give me his name and insurance details to report his details to the police immediately . I was faced with the runaway dog and braked to a halt to avoid running it over and was hit by the driver of the green car . We both stopped but the police eye witness told us to move our cars and the other driver simply drove off ! Anyone knowing of a small green Renault type car with damage to the front bumper area please report the details to the police .. Thanks .

Poor thing must have been terrified. I am glad it was caught safely. Given how most people drive on the A14 I am sure most of them would simply have knocked him down in their hurry to be somewhere 'important' if they had a chance.
