Archant

There has been a twist in the tale featuring an Ipswich house up for sale and a large pig pictured sleeping in the lounge – it has been sold.

The one-bedroom property in The Driftway, off Britannia Road, has taken social media by storm after ‘Pog the Pig’ was seen taking a snooze in one of the photographs advertising the insides of the former meeting hall.

The male pig – who has been confirmed as a house-trained pet rather than the owner – was pictured resting near a TV in the lounge.

The pictures, which also showed a cat sitting on an oven hob in the kitchen, were originally posted by estate agents Connells.

Prospective buyers were left confused by the curious affair. One viewer joked online: “Buy a house in Ipswich and get a free pig.”

On Twitter, Gel Egg said: “That pig knows how to party,” while another quipped: “Free bacon.”

Connells later removed the pictures and the property listing from its website, creating further mystery.

But today, Jonathan Webb, director of Ipswich-based estate agents Keystone, has come forward to announce the property has in fact been sold just a week after they first advertised it for more than their asking price of £100,000.

He said: “We started advertising the property on August 22 and accepted an offer on August 29 for in excess of the asking price.

“We had 10 viewings of the property with more people wanting to view it, but the vendor had already agreed a sale.

“The vendor was very happy with how effective we were as her agent to sell this unique property so quickly where other agents had failed previously.

“We believed that not showing a picture of Pog the Pig was the best strategy but felt we had to make potential viewers aware of the property’s furry friends before viewing!

“We hope to conclude the sale within the next few weeks.”

A spokesman for Connells had earlier said: “The pig featured in the photo is the homeowner’s pet but it wasn’t intended to be featured in the photos.

“The photo in question has since been removed.”

  • Do you ever see one of those stories that make you want to vomit.... This is not a story it's a poorly disguised advert for a mediocre estate agent.

  • I used this agent 3 months ago and they were useless. I'm surprised they even picked up the telephone to make the sale. Perhaps the agent should take up farming instead.

  • I must admit I'm finding it hard to tell the difference between the pig and the agent they look very similar. Must be the face

  • John- it was on the market for over a year and was on a busy and popular estate by the railway station. I mystery shopped the estate agents posing as a buyer whilst it was on the market, so I know why they failed to make the sale....they never made the 'fake' me aware the property was available. Rather than making suggestions of flats that somone looking for a 2 bed flat near town may want, they simply waiting for people to call up about specific flats that were listed on rightmove without trying to set up additional viewings in order to make the sale.

  • I am sure the Estate Agents will be delighted with all this free publicity; perhaps they can thank the journalist over lunch (wink wink). I have no connection whatsoever with any Estate Agent but I must reply to Sentinel Red's comment and state that there is no logical sense in what he or she writes! It may simply be that the buyer came along at that time and had be stayed with the other Agents then one of them would have sold it anyway. Most buyers are aware of every property on the market (thanks to the internet) and when a property sells is just down to when the buyer appears.

  • Well someone made a pigs ear of listing this!! Jokes aside, Mark at Connells in Ipswich is one of the best estate agents in Ipswich ( and no I don't know him personally or have a personal realtionship with the company. Connelss sold my flat for me in a number of weeks after no less than 4 other estate agents failed miserably.
