HOMEOWNERS waited anxiously to see if their properties would be flooded today after a water main burst at Trimley St Martin.

Motorists faced disruption as police closed off a section of HIgh Road following the incident at 6.18am.

The stretch between the roundabout at Howlett Way and the St Martins Green junction was shut with water about five inches deep across the carriageway and pavements.

While drivers faced difficulties, pedestrians could still get through by taking footpaths through the nearby estate.

Rear gardens back onto the short stretch of road. The Sausage Shop was not affected.

Anglian Water engineers and contractors arrived at the scene at 7.33am and are investigating the problem, using a digger to break the road surface at the St Martins Green junction.

The road is expected to remain closed for much of the day.
