A MOTORCYCLIST was hospitalised after a collision with a car in Ipswich.

The crash, between a Kawasaki motorbike and a Vauxhall Astra, happened in Hawthorn Drive, Chantry, this afternoon.

Police initially described the man’s injuries as “potentially life-threatening” but paramedics later said he had suffered only a “minor leg injury”.

The man - believed by police to be around 40 years old - was taken to Ipswich Hospital following the collision at around 2.10pm.

Hawthorn Drive was closed - between its junction with Aster Road and Marigold Avenue - for more than four hours while the scene was cleared.

Later this afternoon another motorcyclist was involved in a collision - this time with a bus in Norwich Road, Ipswich.

The crash happened near the junction with Orford Street around 5.05pm.

The motorcyclist, believed by police to be 24-year-old man, was taken to Ipswich Hospital with minor injuries.

The road was blocked for around 20 minutes.

  • I'm the 24 year old guy that was hit by the bus on Norwich road, 15 stitches in my left knee otherwise unscathed, apologies to all that were held up at the time, a great thanks to the emergency services who did a great job all round! Thoughts and best wishes to the other gentleman and his family... hope he comes out okay.

  • Regarding the accident between the bike and vauxhall astra, the 40 year old man has 2 broken arms and 2 broken legs 1 cracked rib, and damage to his vertebrae, he is at present in the operating theatre having all repaired hopefully successfally. I know this to be true as I am his Mother
