Jade Peters from BBC's The Voice sings for pupils at Clifford Road Primary School, Ipswich

Children at an Ipswich primary school were left star-struck when singing sensation Jade Mayjean Peters performed for them.

The singer, who made it through to the knock-out stages of BBC1 talent show The Voice on Saturday night, sang for children at Clifford Road Primary School.

Jade, 21, from Rushmere, said: “It was really good, the children really enjoyed it.

“I have been overwhelmed by the support I’ve receieved, and people now recognise me in the street which is a bit surreal.”

She performed covers by Lorde, Rhiannon and Katy Perry’s Roar, which she said went down particularly well with the children.

Steve Wood, headteacher, said: “Jade came across really down to earth and very genuinely wanted to talk to the children.

“On Friday I told the children about her visit and I’m guessing they all watched the show on Saturday because they knew she was still in the competition. One of our teaching assistants, Cherise Philips, went to school with Jade and asked if she would come to our school.

“It really was a fantasic morning.”

On Saturday Jade sang for crowds in Christchurch Park, before she watched the programme in the evening surrounded by friends and family in The Spread Eagle pub in town. Aussie superstar Kylie Minogue - Jade’s mentor - chose to take her through to the next round of the competition after she performed Britney Spears’ track Baby One More Time in a battle against the double-act Gemyni.

  • I find shows like The Voice and The X Factor very educational. When they're on I usually read a book...

  • I am looking forward to the day I look at this paper and do not find a headline story on this girl ,ok she sings but not great, so why not wait till the country votes to see what happens .

  • I quote - "Children at an Ipswich primary school were left star-struck" - let's be honest they would have been equally "star struck" by the performing dog off Britain's Got Talent, or Jedward, or anyone with an ounce of celebrity. Talent has nothing to do with it. And printing lots of stories to whip up interest won't make her any more or any less talented. The problem with these talent shows is that they promote mediocrity, she's a good singer but not a great singer.

  • No redhotitfc, but then I'm not seeking publicity and using schoolkids and the local paper to get votes.
