A choral flashmob surprised shoppers in Suffolk yesterday (Saturday) when they burst into song around the fruit and veg aisle.

Visitors to Waitrose in Saxmundham were treated to the unexpected rendition of The Rhythm of Life, performed by 25 members of Sing Out Yoxford, at about 12.15pm.

The choir’s director Tracy Virr said the performance drew a large crowd of onlookers and was great fun for all involved.

“Judging by the smiles on people’s faces and the cheers and applause at the end, it was very well received by shoppers and staff,” she added.

“It has been an ambition of mine for some time to do this, as I think spontaneous music has a way of bringing unexpected joy to people.

“It was tremendous fun for the choir, who are a newly formed community choir.

“We meet once a week, with the aim of enjoying singing together - our sessions are great fun.

“We plan to do more of this sort of thing, so may pop up again at any time, any place.”

The choir, which has been formed for less than a year, meet every Monday from 7pm – 9pm in Yoxford Primary School.

New members from Yoxford and the surrounding visitors are welcome to join, with no audition or experience needed.
