Video/Gallery: Bury St Edmunds - Hundreds line the streets to welcome soldiers home

13:03 11 January 2014

Hundreds of patriotic people packed the streets to welcome home a Royal Air Force regiment from Afghanistan.

No 2 Squadron, based at RAF Honington, paraded through Bury St Edmunds to waves of applause this morning having recently returned from Camp Bastion.

The parade started on the Angel Hill and was led through the town by The Band of the Royal Air Force College.

There was then a medals ceremony held at Charter Square in The Apex before troops joined friends and family for a private celebration.

Senior Aircraftman James Tuffin was one of the soldiers that marched through the town, and said people’s reaction made his seven-month tour of duty seem worthwhile.

He added: “It was fantastic. It’s been a long seven months, but on a day like today it’s hard to keep a smile off my face.”
