THE heaviest of the snow is expected to hit Suffolk and north Essex around 7pm, forecasters have said.

Norwich-based Weatherquest said it would be accompanied by winds of around 20mph, opening up the prospect of blizzards and snow drifts.

And there is no let up in prospect - forecaster Phil Garner said there would be larger downfalls of snow on Sunday evening.

Mr Garner, delivering this afternoon’s outlook, said: “The snow is on its way - it’s flowing in from the west.

“There are light flurries but the main snow is in Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire at the moment (noon).

“We’re expecting it to be become more persistent and heavier in the late afternoon, through until midnight.”

He added there would light flurries on Saturday but the heaviest snow is expected late afternoon on Sunday, with up to five inches predicted to fall overnight.

The snow is unlikely to go anywhere anytime soon - temperatures are forecast to hover around freezing until late next week.
