Businesses and families across Suffolk and Essex were waiting to hear on Wednesday what Chancellor the Exchequer Philip Hammond’s Budget will mean for them.

The Chancellor is due to present his budget – the first full autumn budget since 1996 – at 12.30 on Wednesday and there is speculation that there could be something in it for the NHS as well as housing.

And it is also expected there could be a further easing of the government’s austerity programme in a bid to stimulate further economic growth and shield the country from the effects of Brexit.

We shall be covering the budget online as it happens with reaction from local businesses and politicians as it happens. See this site from noon to see our rolling coverage.

The budget speech is not expected to be as long as some in the past – but some observers do expect it to be more interesting as Mr Hammond tries to shore up his own position in the government and give the cabinet a boost after the disastrous General Election earlier this year.
