After some glorious weather this weekend, Weatherquest forecaster Dan Holley tells us what we can expect next week.

Temperatures could rise to 26C (78.8F) towards the end of the week and there will be plenty of sunshine and not much rain, he said. However, there is a small risk of a thunderstorm on Thursday.

Nationally, warm tropical air from the Atlantic Azores islands’ off the coast of Portugal is forecast to sweep across the country during the week.

Mr Holley said: “It will be a bit blustery on Monday. It will be quite breezy, possibly up to 20mph, and quite a bit of cloud with sunny breaks. Gradually, as we go through next week, the winds will be get lighter.

“On Tuesday it could be 20C (68F) or 21C (69.8F), and with the winds being lighter, it will feel warmer, even though numerically it is not much higher. There is a better chance of more blue skies as well.

“During the second half of the week, on Thursday and Friday, it starts to really get warmer. I think it will get close to the mid-20s (Celsius), particularly inland.

“The average is 18C (64.4F) or 19C (66.2F) at this time of year and Thursday will be signficantly above average. It could get to 26C (78.8F) at Santon Downham (north Suffolk).

“It is not going to be sunny all the time, but there will be reasonable sunshine around Tuesday and Wednesday.

“Thursday has a slight caveat. There is a small risk of thunderstorms in one or two places. It is one to keep an eye on, but there shouldn’t be any rain to talk about throughout the week.

“The next couple of nights won’t be as muggy as last night, with drier air mass, but there could be a bit more of a continental influence on Wednesday and Thursday night.

“The sunshine should also continue into next weekend, but we are not promising blue skies all day every day.”
