An Ipswich woman accused of stealing her mother’s bank card and using it to make cash withdrawals and payments totalling more than £300 has been cleared of theft by a jury.

Before Ipswich Crown Court was Charmaine Dockery, 37, of Devonshire Road, Ipswich, who denied theft of an HSBC bank card and fraud in October 2015.

Although she was cleared of the theft charge the jury convicted her of fraud. Sentence was adjourned for a pre-sentence report.

Dockery was alleged to have stolen the HSBC card from her mother Rona Dockery’s handbag and used it to make withdrawals totalling £300.

When challenged about the missing bank card and money by her parents Dockery denied being responsible but allegedly said she would repay the money if they thought she’d taken it.

Dockery was also alleged to have gone into the Three Mobile Store in Bury St Edmunds and pretended to be her mother to get a phone upgrade.

Giving evidence Dockery denied stealing her mother’s bank card from her handbag.

She also denied pretending to be her mother when she went to the mobile phone shop.
