A selection of 80 paintings by a Suffolk RAF pilot turned artist will be going on display in Woodbridge next month.
Born in Newmarket in 1909, Robert Sadler studied at Eastbourne College and Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge – joining the Royal Air Force as a pilot in 1930.
By the age of 14, he was drawing and painting aeroplanes, horses, houses and landscapes.
In 1964, Sadler moved to Aldeburgh, where he lived and painted until his death in 2001.
One of the largest exhibitions and sales of his work will take place at Artspace-Woodbridge from June 14-27.
Louise Sant, organising the show with her sister, Claire, at the exhibition space in The Thoroughfare, said: “Sadler was not as well known as his contemporaries, but he should have been, as we found some unexpected joys in his figurative and abstract work, which we have selected for the show.”
