Police in Suffolk have received reports of so-called “Nottingham Knockers” operating in the south of the county attempting to sell low-value household products, often of dubious quality, at hugely inflated prices.

Suffolk Constabulary said the door to door sellers were reported to have called on homes in Hadleigh and Leavenheath on Friday afternoon.

“Sometimes called ‘Nottingham Knockers’ these callers may claim to be ex-offenders attempting to mend their ways, however Nottingham Knockers are not part of any recognised rehabilitation scheme,” a spokesman said,

“Do not deal with them and report them to Suffolk police on 101.”

The term Nottingham Knockers arose as it is believed the scam first originated in the Midlands city.

People can also reported doorstep callers to Trading Standards via Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 03454 040506.

Suffolk police also receives information about incidents via its website here.

“Help us keep our communities safe by reporting any suspicious activity,” the spokesman added.
