The Blue Cross facility at Bourne Hill in Wherstead welcomed around 1,000 visitors to today’s event, which featured a raffle, children’s activities, charity stalls and a dog show and agility course.

Centre manager Andrew Gillon said: “It went very well and it was phenomenally well supported by the public.

“We have seen a lot of dogs that we have rehomed from the centre and we have been able to meet some of their pups. Lots of people have spoken to us about the cats we have rehomed as well, so it’s been amazing.

“What’s been inspiring is the amount of volunteers who have helped us – we have had around 40 volunteers contributing to making this day an amazing success.”

The charity opened its Wherstead centre in January last year, relocating from its previous site in Felixstowe where it operated for 40 years.
