COLCHESTER UNITED midfielder Anthony Wordsworth is poised to join Ipswich Town but has yet to undergo a medical with the Blues.

We understand the 24-year-old is on the verge of leaving the struggling League One team, and is currently in advanced talks with the Blues.

Wordsworth, out-of-contract in the summer, has played over 150 times for the U’s and has also been a target Charlton Athletic. However, Ipswich boss Mick McCarthy looks to have won the race for his signature.

Should he sign, he is likely to be joined by Richard Stearman, who has agreed a loan move from Wolverhampton Wanderers until the end of the season.

Town are at home to Middlesbrough, in the Championship, on Saturday.

Meanwhile, defender Patrick Kisnorbo has extended his loan with Town until the end of the season.

  • I think he'll be a good signing. most people seem to have a pretty high opinion of him down in Colch. This is all assuming that we aren't jumping the gun and he doesn't sign for someone else in the next 24 hours!! Welcome to Town, Hope he does well.

  • Ged I hardly think a Norwich fan is in a position to talk about our manager not knowing what he's doing! Luton?! Jog on.

  • Hi Ged, suggest you refer to Rob Steroo's comments. Even he is cautiously optimistic

  • IF true this not only means a sensible signing... deluded Town fans can begin to think that after seeing Kinsella leave Colchester for Charlton & Bent leave Town for Charlton, Offshore Investment FC might actually be a more attractive club than Charlton for the first time in nigh on 20 years (which must be very bad news for Charlton supporters).

  • Town's future has to be with young players who, hopefully can step up to a higher level ( nothing is certain ) rather than with 'seen it all' , 'done some' and 'now looking for a large pay packet' players at the end of their careers.

  • Optimistic about this player, no good having 10 strikers if they're not getting the service.
