As his five-year anniversary nears, Ipswich Town owner Marcus Evans is keen to learn from his mistakes

IPSWICH Town owner Marcus Evans is keen to learn from his mistakes.
Ex-boss Paul Jewell has revealed that he met with his former employer recently to discuss what went wrong during his 21-month regime.
And the outcome seems to have been that the club’s reclusive owner regrets tightening the purse strings back in the summer.
“I had dinner with the owner, Marcus Evans, last week in London and we tried to go back and look at where we think we got things wrong,” revealed Jewell, speaking on a Sky Sports Sunday morning panel show.
“I think possibly in the summer we should have strengthened. We tried to strengthen, but we couldn’t strengthen for different reasons – hence we had so many loan players.”
Jewell departed the club by mutual consent after a return of just seven points from the opening 12 games of the season left them rock-bottom of the Championship table. His replacement, Mick McCarthy, has already masterminded a return of 16 points from a possible 24 to lift the club five points clear of the relegation zone. Only second-place Crystal Palace have equalled that record in the Championship over the last eight games.
“I’m delighted Mick’s got them going,” said Jewell. “I had a bit of a hand in getting Mick the job. Marcus was asking me my opinions of certain managers..”
Reflecting on his time at Portman Road – which started with a good run at the end of the 2010/11 season, continued with a disappointing 15th-place the following campaign and ended with a dismal start to this one – Jewell said: “I’ve really got a great feeling for the club. There are lovely people that work there, great supporters, great facilities – but I felt (moving on) was the right thing to do for the club.”
Meanwhile, Jewell – who spent more than a year out of the game before Ipswich came calling – said he was not actively looking for a quick return to management.
