BLACKBURN Rovers are set to renege on an agreement to extend Bradley Orr’s loan spell at Ipswich Town until the end of the season, according to reports in Lancashire.

Blues boss Mick McCarthy last week announced that Rovers had agreed to extend the 30-year-old right-back’s loan spell at the club until the end of the campaign, however, Michael Appleton has since been appointed as manager at Ewood Park.

The former Portsmouth and Blackpool boss has decided to take a look at Orr and, as a result, has decided to recall the defender when his initial loan spell at Portman Road expires on January 26.

It means that Orr will be available for Town’s next two games – at home against Barnsley on Saturday and away at his former club Bristol City the following weekend.

Town’s back-up right-back is teenager Elliott Hewitt, a summer signing from League Two side Macclesfield. The Welsh Under-21 international is tipped for a bright future and impressed on his full debut recently, a 2-1 defeat at Premier League side Aston Villa.

Luke Chambers is also capable at playing right-back, while right-winger Carlos Edwards was a regular in that position under former boss Paul Jewell.

Orr’s departure would open up another loan spot for Blues boss Mick McCarthy, with Championship clubs able to name five domestic loan players in their matchday squads.

McCarthy is understood to be interested in two right-backs at his former club Wolves – Ronald Zubar and Richard Stearman. The Blues have baulked at the £1.8m asking price for the later though, while Zubar was brought in from the cold to start Dean Saunders’ first game in charge – a 1-1 draw with Blackburn.

  • Cyril - I only mentioned it because you said it had not been mentioned, when in fact it had been mentioned : but now I am finding it difficult to fit in more uses and meanings of mention in one paragraph than yours, as mentioned, above.

  • I hope this might give Hewitt his chance. Reports were that he did well at Villa, he's an ITFC player, young and hopefully the future.

  • Mick the No Loans Man might actually have to play one of his own players now ... and of course be praised for great management when Hewitt proves far superior to a part time aged mercenary.

  • While I think Orr has added some much needed steel and experience to the defence he is only a loan with no mention of permanency. To rebuild for the future it may be best that he is recalled and we can get on with seeing how Hewitt gets on in his absence.

  • Not surprising really seeing as Appleton reneged on his contract with his former club Blackpool when leaning he would not qualify for his long serving watch !!!!!!!!

  • Interesting, EADT are happy to report on Ore situation, but no mention of the fact that QPR have told DJ Campbell he can go. I wonder why.

  • Dave JS, I am sure you are not suggesting that the 6 words mentioned in the article you mention compares with the headlines give to the Ore situation. I pray I am wrong but suggest the signings made means that the manager and the eadt realise what the outcome will be with Campbell, but the eadt for their own reasons do not want to discuss this.

  • DJ is on his way to see his old boss Ian Holloway. We won't be seeing him in a Town shirt again. I'd like to think that we have enough power up front now and that we ought to employ a couple of attacking midfiled players, and another right back. We can't surely expect young Hewitt to last the rest of the season without any proper cover, in case of injury etc. Orr has done a reasonable job, but we need stability and you get that with permanent players, don't you think?
