The Lowestoft middleweight, who won bronze at London 2012 and is now unbeaten in four professional fights, is the first British boxer to sign with the world-famous brand since former heavyweight world champion Frank Bruno.

And he will now wear Nike’s iconic ‘swoosh’ logo on his fight shorts as he battles towards his goal of becoming the region’s first-ever boxing world champion.

Ogogo, 25, said: ”It is an honour for me to sign with Nike and I am very proud to do so.

“They are the elite sports brand and the best of the best – which mirrors everything that I hope to achieve in my career.

“Their products, apparel and training gear is unrivalled and I cannot wait to be wearing the famous Nike swoosh on my shorts every time I step inside of the ring.

“This is an exciting time for both me and British boxing as a whole and I’m very excited to begin working alongside Nike”.

Ogogo, who is promoted by boxing icon Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions, is currently preparing to return to the ring in Glasgow on March 1, against an as-yet unnamed opponent.

And he said that the Nike deal will inspire him to reach even greater heights.

Writing in his blog on www.anthonyogogo.com, he explained: “The name, the swoosh says it all.

“Excellence. I’m very proud to announce that I have become a Nike athlete. When I think of Nike it embodies everything that I want to be.

“I’m not there yet but that’s why I’m working so hard to attain the stratospheric level that I want to get to, that I need to get to.”

He continued: “I will do my utmost to promote the brand in a positive light in and out of the ring. This isn’t just great for me, but it’s great for British boxing.

“Frank Bruno was the last British boxer to have an alignment with Nike way back in the 90s. Frank was a legend, probably the most well-known and well-liked British sportsman of the 90s and that’s exactly what I want to become.

“Through my performances in the ring and personality and conduct out of it I hope to attain the same support that ‘our Frank’ did in his glory days.

“It’s great for the best brand in the world to want to get back working, in my opinion, the best sport in the world.”

Dean Baker, Head of Boxing for Wasserman, added: “Anthony is one of Britain’s top prospects and we believe he will go onto to become one of the best middleweights in the world.

“We look forward to an exciting relationship with Nike.”

Ogogo last fought in December, outpointing Dan Blackwell over six rounds at the Excel Arena in London.

Before that, he stopped Gary Boulden in the fifth round in Hull and took a points decision over Edgar Perez in Atlantic City.

He started his pro career with a second round stoppage of Kieron Gray in Sheffield.
