Whitton United made it six wins out of six in Thurlow Nunn Division One with a thumping 8-0 victory at Diss Town.

The Greens produced a performance of pace and power which was far too good for a home side in the midst of rebuilding after the departure of management and players from last season.

After competing well in the first half hour the Diss defence was bypassed at will and ex-Haughley boss Jason Cook, who took over the reins in the summer, faces a tough task on this evidence to turn things round.

The visitors opened the scoring on 18 minutes when an inch-perfect cross from new signing George Mrozek was headed home at by skipper Franco Mallardo.

Diss came back into the game for a period and efforts from Soloman Pope and Stephen Vincent were blocked before Lewis Cooke came within a whisker of equalising when he headed against a post.

Mrozek should have doubled the advantage when he put the ball over an empty net. Whitton soon made it 2-0 when Josh Hitter bent the ball into the far corner from 18 yards after Mrozek had struck the post.

Diss keeper Robbie Goodwin saved from Ryan Rampley and Jamie Cole only for Josh Hubert to extend the lead further just before the break as he played a one-two with Rampley before drilling home a swerving effort into the top corner.

Cole soon added another after the resumption of play as he ran onto a Mrozek flick to slide the ball game. Rampley made it five on 56 minutes as he got on the end of a Cole centre to head home.

The Diss defence was falling apart and two minutes later Tom Ramsey dallied on the ball allowing Cole to pounce and net his 12th goal of the season. Things thne got from bad to worse for Ramsey as he somehow turned Rampley’s cross into his own net for number seven.

Will Goulding, who has just joined Diss from Scole, came off the bench and headed Vincent’s free-kick against the bar.

Normal service then resumed with Mallardo sending a 25-yard cross shot over Goodwin and into the top corner from near the right touchline to complete the rout.

The win returns Whitton to second place in the table, hot on the heels of leaders Woodbridge.
