Felixstowe & Walton host Hadleigh United tonight to open a busy November for the home side, writes Phil Griffiths.

They return to the Goldstar after four consecutive away trips that have brought maximum points from the three league fixtures, but a quick exit from this season’s FA Vase.

Hadleigh arrive on the coast looking for their first win in four but will be bolstered by the arrival of defender Kris Rose, who makes the switch from Humber Doucy Lane to the Millfield following the appointment of Shane Wardley to the Hadleigh hot seat last week.

This will be Wardley’s first game in charge and he will be expecting a positive reaction from his squad - they find themselves just two points above the relegation places, and Wardley’s first task will be to lift his side away from the danger zone.

A point or even a win at the Goldstar ground would be a massive bonus and confidence boost for his squad, who were beaten by an injury-time goal last week as he took a watching brief.

A win for the home side would see them amass a spectacular 21-point lead at the top of the Premier Division ahead of the Saturday fixtures - those immediately below them all have games in hand, but joint managers Kevin O’Donnell and Ian Watson are quite happy to have points in the bag rather than games in hand

The philosophy of taking one game at a time, win the next one and move on has worked well so far, with just the blip at Saffron Walden to date.

The home side’s last Friday night fixture at the Goldstar attracted a crowd of 450, and they will be hoping to better that for a game between two old adversaries, both with plenty to play for and traditionally well supported.

The other Friday night game sees long established Haverhill Rovers host new kids on the block Haverhill Borough for a first-ever meeting in the Premier Division.

Rovers sit five places and seven points better off than Borough, who share the same facilities but the ‘visitors’ have three games in hand over their hosts.
