Felixstowe & Walton got the start to the league season they wanted with Tuesday’s win at Stanway, following on from last Saturday’s curtain-raiser victory over Stowmarket Town.

However, after two tough fixtures, the Seasiders’ schedule doesn’t get any easier with the Premier Division looking stronger this time round.

That is because of clubs dropping down from step four football, and ambitious clubs being promoted from Division One.

Felixstowe face another big test ton Saturday when they host Godmanchester Rovers in a re-arranged fixture, after an unceremonious exit from the FA Cup for both clubs.

Rovers arrive having played three league fixtures, losing on the opening day away at Coggeshall Town, one of the promoted clubs already installed as one of the title favourites.

They then bounced back emphatically at home to Great Yarmouth Town last weekend, winning 4-1, but then lost by the same scoreline at home to Haverhill Rovers on Wednesday evening.

The Godmanchester squad was decimated last season, with virtually every player leaving before it had begun, but the club have been steadily rebuilt, and finished the campaign in a respectable mid-table position that they will be looking to build on, this time round.

The Seasiders know they are the target that other clubs wish to emulate, after finishing runners-up behind promoted Mildenhall last season.

With the huge surge in interest from the terraces, the side now attracts substantial support every game, which should help carry them through the difficult times and, with Godmanchester always likely to cause an upset, they will be hoping for a strong turnout for this game.

Latest signing Taylor Hastings made his first start at centre back on Tuesday, replacing the absent Rhys Barber, and has added to Felixstowe’s strength in depth at the heart of the defence, although Stefano Mallardo has yet to make an appearance after picking up a knee injury during the pre-season encounter against Woodbridge Town.
