While the international break means no Ipswich Town game for a fortnight, a number of Blues players are involved in important matches spread across the world. Sports writer ANDY WARREN takes a look at when and where the Blues’ internationals are in action.

Jonas Knudsen - Denmark (v Republic of Ireland - World Cup play-off - November 11 and 14)

It was a late call for the Ipswich Town defender, but he is in the squad as Denmark take on Ireland in a two-legged play-off for a place at next summer’s World Cup in Russia.

The first game is at Parken in Copenhagen on Saturday night, with the return in Dublin on Tuesday. Knudsen will be hopeful of winning his third Denmark cap, having won his previous two prior to his move to Portman Road in the summer of 2015.

As things stand, the Ipswich Town striker is out of the Ireland squad for the two-legged clash with Knudsen’s Denmark having struggled with a groin problem.

However, manager Martin O’Neill has left the door open for him to return, saying ‘there is still room on the plane’ if the niggling issue clears up.

If he is involved he could be in line to win his seventh Ireland cap and could play a part in a squad also containing former Blues striker Daryl Murphy and midfielder Conor Hourihane.

Tommy Smith and Monty Patterson - New Zealand (v Peru - World Cup play-off - November 11 and 14)

Two more Blues are in with a chance of reaching next summer’s World Cup.

The New Zealanders finished top of the Oceania qualifying group and earned a two-legged play-off with Peru, who were fifth in the South American qualifying competition.

Smith has won 35 caps for the All Whites and played in all three of their games at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, while Patterson has one goal in his 15 international games to date.

Bersant Celina - Kosovo Under 21s (v Israel h and Azerbaijan a - European Championship qualifiers - November 11 and 14)

The Manchester City loanee will be looking to take his run of goalscoring form at club level into his country’s European Under 21 qualifiers, having scored in each of his last three Ipswich games.

Celina has previously stated his dream of captaining Kosovo at a World Cup but this break will see him attempt to help guide the Under 21s to the finals in 2019.

He has eight senior caps to his name.

Flynn Downes England U19s (v Faroe Islands, Iceland and Bulgaria - European Championship qualifiers - November 8, 11 and 14)

The young midfielder is due to win his second Under 19 cap when the Young Lions took on the Faroe Islands in Bulgaria later today, in the first of three European Championship qualifiers.

They then take on Iceland on November 11 and Bulgaria on November 14, with all three matches being played in Bulgaria as the youngsters begin the defence of the title they won in Georgia in the summer.

Mick McCarthy confirmed last week that Downes’ fellow Ipswich midfielder, Tristan Nydam, is on stand-by for the three games.

Kevin Bru - Mauritius (v Togo a - friendly - Sunday November 12)

The midfielder, who recently returned to the first-team picture having previously been told he was free to leave Portman Road, could win his 13th international cap when Les Dodos take on Togo in Lomé in a friendly on Sunday.

The Paris-born 28-year-old quailifies for Mauritius via his parents and has also skippered the country of late.

Bru’s side go into the game against Togo without a win in any of their last nine games.
