The duo, who landed silver at last month’s World Championships, in Australia, secured a four-minute victory over the second-placed Dutch pair, Lisa Westerhof and Lobke Berkhout in what was their only win of the day, given the dying breeze.

Sophie Weguelin and Sophie Ainsworth were fourth - the same as Skandia Team GBR pair Ben Saxton and Richard Mason in the men’s equivalent with Luke Patience and Stuart Bithell 11th.

Olympic champion Paul Goodison sits second in the Laser fleet thanks to third and first places while Charlotte Dobson is third in the Laser Radial.

SKUD world champions Alexandra Rickham and Niki Birrell are ahead of their fleet in Biscayne Bay.

The pair, who last week claimed their fourth consecutive IFDS Disabled Sailing World Championship title in Florida, continued their form with a first and second place from their two races.

They lead American world silver medallists Jennifer French and Jean-Paul Creignou going into the second day of racing.
