MICHAEL Chopra believes one-time Newcastle team mate Alan Shearer would be an ideal choice to replace Paul Jewell as manager of Ipswich Town.
The Blues striker this morning tweeted his support of both Jewell and England goalscoring legend Alan Shearer as the race to be the next Ipswich boss heats up.
George Burley, the last Town manager to lead the club into the Premier League, has also thrown his hat into the ring while we understand fellow former Blues hero Terry Butcher is keen on an interview.
Chopra wrote: “A disappointing day yesterday with Paul Jewell leaving. Want to wish Paul all the best in the future, now a massive game Saturday.
“Need to get this great club back where it belongs. Who do the fans want as manager?
“I would love to see Alan Shearer as manager, such a good person and worked (and) played under some great managers including Sir Bobby Robson.”
Swindon boss Paolo Di Canio might also want a chance to manage Ipswich having been rumoured to be interested in the vacancies at divisional rivals Blackburn and Bolton.
According to Paddy Power, Alan Curbishley’s odds have been cut to 5/6 while Mick McCarthy is the new second favourite at 5/2.
Ipswich Town have been handed a raw deal, following the release of the Blues’ fixture list for the 2013/14 campaign.

Hilarious stuff. Your breathless excitement at the next managerial appointment (bottom of barrel scraping) is far removed from the depressing reality of what Evans will come up with via the blackberry.

For as much as i don't like Mick McCarthy,he has a proven record of getting clubs out of a sticky situation with no funds and he definately speaks his mind which might put a certain Mr Clegg in his place..But please,Alan shearer,You must be having a laugh,No Experience whatsoever and prob one of the dirtiest footballers this country has seen...What about bringing Big Joe Royal back??

Definitely not Shearer. Evans and Clegg must have learned somethng from the disastrous Keane experiment. Probably not, though.

No thanks Michael. No managerial experience of any worth and we do need an experienced man right now. Trouble is, all the football managers who are not now working have been sacked from their previous clubs, so take your pick.

All this cheap speculation is demeaning the clubs reputation......Forget the big name failure's ...What we need is a.. Young, Hungry, Ambitious manager and we need look no further than Colchester Uniteds Joe Dunne he is working miricles there..Or Gary Smith at Stevenage Borough...Or Ritchie Baker at Crawy Town... All these talents are totally unspoiled, very ambitious, and i'm sure would grab the chance to take charge at Portman road..Up the town..

This will be arguably the most important decision ITFC have made for 50+ years and they MUST get it right or the club will be in Division 1. For my part do NOT appoint McCarthy!!

Oh dear. Alan Shearer? In other words - Roy Keane Mk II. Surely Clegg and Evans have worked out that a "big name manager" didn't exactly work out the last time?

Please, please not Alan Shearer. He has no track record whatsoever as a manager. Oh sorry, I forgot, didn't he get Newcastle relegated? And Paolo di Canio? No! The man is a self-confessed fascist. Not my words, his.
