IPSWICH Town defender Ibrahima Sonko is facing up to a month on the sidelines after dislocating a rib.
The centre-back fell awkwardly during Saturday’s home game against Middlesbrough, the game subsequently abandoned in the 38th minute with referee Dean Whitestone concerned for player safety on a frozen strip of pitch.
“He’s dislocated his rib,” revealed Jewell. “He’s probably looking at two to four weeks out we think. He’s very sore and tender at the moment. “It’s a blow for us because just as we seem to build a bit of momentum we lose another centre-half.”
Damien Delaney will come into the side to play at Portsmouth tomorrow night. He and Tommy Smith – who conceded six goals in two games last August – are the club’s only fit senior centre-backs.
Meanwhile, Lee Bowyer has returned to training following a groin problem. However, Jewell says the veteran midfielder needs a game before he can be considered for the first team.
“He hasn’t played since the Forest game which was four or five weeks ago,” said the Blues boss.
“We’d like to get him some game time between now and the end of the week, eleven v eleven. He’s had a few little twinges but I think he’s fine now.”

I am surprised some fans have the opinion that PJ should bring in a loan player to cover for Sonko the clown. If PJ gets wind of this he'll see it as the ideal excuse to shoe in yet more semi-retired knackers into the squad. Afterall it is now quite obvious that PJ reacts to the daft opinions of the fans who post within these pages, rather than use his own judgement.

Says quite a lot when a teams star player is somebody no other club would employ , maybe this summer Marcus may spend a little instead of pocketing £8 million .

Answer 1 From what i have seen of sonko just lately we are probably better off with 10 men , Answer 2 What point is there in signing players who are worse than we have already got , as for signing better players i refer you to answer 3 ,. Answer 3 ; Simon Clegg.

Question 2 - when did Sonko fall awkwardly - he seemed to spontaneously injure himself. Question 3 - how many central defenders to Town need...2... how many have they got.... 2... what sort of crisis is that? Question 4 - has nobody at the EADT seen or heard of Jide Maduako.... this would be an ideal time to try a highly promising young player, rather than get in yet more rent-a-duds.

Jewell, are you deliberately trying to get ITFC relegated ? If not you are making a pretty good attempt. You've, unfortunately been our manager for over 12 months, McAuley has been given to WBA and you still haven't seen the need for anothe CB. Man, you are the 'pits' !!!!!!!

With Delaney and Bowyer set to return one can only now expect Town to go storming up the league table.

This really is bad news.we cannot go on like this from week to week without cover at the back.If we get another injury tomorrow night on our CB`S what then.PJ must act fast and get a loan player in within the next 48 hours,WE cannot take the attitude of wait and see ,the club must treat this as urgent.

Question 1 - Just how many people need to highlight the obvious need for cover at CB before something is done about it ??? Question 2 - After a year in charge should we really be in this position ???
