Ipswich Town will play Birmingham City, at Portman Road, on the opening day of the 2017/18 Championship season.

Harry Redknapp’s side finished 19th last season but are looking to spend big this summer, having signed keeper David Stockdale and offered a contract to John Terry.

Mick McCarthy’s men return to pre-season training next Monday in preparation for their 16th successive season of Championship football.

The Blues finished a disappointing 16th last season – the club’s lowest finish in 58 years – and McCarthy has already embarked on a major freshening up of the squad this summer ahead of his fifth full season in charge at Portman Road.

• Sports writers Stuart Watson and Chris Brammer will host an interactive Facebook Live chat at 12.45pm today, followed immediately by a live Q&A webchat on this site.
