Ipswich Town midfielder Tom Adeyemi is targeting his Blues’ debut at QPR, a week on Saturday.

The 25-year-old midfielder moved to Portman Road on a free transfer from Championship rivals Cardiff City this summer, but has yet to kick a ball in anger for the Blues in the Championship, having suffered with illness and then a calf strain.

There was some light at the end of the tunnel on Tuesday night however, Adeyemi playing in the under-23s 3-2 victory over Sheffield United, at Portman Road.

“It was nice to finally get back out there and be part of a game again,” he told the club’s website.

“It’s been a long time coming and I was looking forward to it so I’m glad I got through it.

“It’s been very frustrating for me.

“I only had a week of training in pre-season, then I had the illness which seemed to drag on forever and felt like it was never going to go away.

“It’s been a nightmare and at that point (calf injury) you think ‘Is anything ever going to go right for me?

“I feel really good now and I’ve worked really hard with the physios as well as in training so I’m slowly getting my fitness back.

“I got 60 minutes on Monday which was a bonus as I thought I may only manage 45, so hopefully, after the international break, I’ll be ready to be in contention.”

Adeyemi, who scored seven goals in 30 games on-loan at Rotherham last season, added: “I am naturally quite fit but at the same time, a lot of my game is based on my ability to get up and down the pitch so if I’m unable to do that it holds me back.

“I have to make sure I’m fully fit but I feel good.”

Town head to Loftus Road after the current international break, aiming to start a new winning run – their perfect start to the new Championship campaign ending with a 2-0 home defeat to Fulham, last Saturday, after four successive victories.

“At the moment I am desperate to get into the team and I want to be involved in the QPR game, whatever way that is,” explained the former Norwich City man.

“I played on Tuesday, I will probably play again on Saturday (for the under-23s) and then I will have a good week in training with the lads to get ready for QPR.

“It’s up to me to impress the manager in training any games I get shirt and keep hold of it.”
