Bersant Celina’s thunderous strike against Leeds has earned the Ipswich Town winger a nomination for the Championship goal of the month award for January.

The Kosovan took aim from 30 yards and fired past Leeds keeper Felix Wiedwald to secure three points for the Blues on January 13, before charging to the corner of the North and Cobbold stands to celebrate with supporters.

It was Celina’s seventh leagie goal of the campaign, with the Manchester City’s strike catching the attention of the judges as one of the three goals nominated for the goal of the month prize.

He faces competition from Steve Morison of Millwall, who found the Norwich net in style on New Year’s Day as he turned on to a bouncing George Saville pass, judged his volley exquisitely to sent it dipping over Norwich keeper Angus Gunn.

The other nominee is Norwich’s James Maddison, who found the bottom corner of the net from range against Brentford on January 27.

“It was a good goal for sure,” Celina said, after scoring his goal.

“I’m just really happy for the team, for myself, the fans and everyone here.

“It’s definitely among the best professional goals I scored. I’ve scored some good goals but that’s one of the best. I’m glad it proved to be important and it’s great to get the win against a strong team.

“I’m really enjoying myself here and I’m just happy I can play games, be involved and help the team. Hopefully for the next four months and for all season I can keep playing well.”

Voting begins for the goal of the month award today on the Sky Sports website.
